A reader with an unreasonable pile

Hello. I'm the reader behind Dog-Eared — no committee, no editorial calendar handed down from a publisher, just one person who reads far more than is strictly reasonable and likes writing about it afterwards. I read across literary fiction, translated novels, essays, and whatever backlist oddity the last book sent me chasing.

The name is a small confession. I dog-ear pages, I write in margins in pencil, and I crack spines without guilt — books here are things to be used, not preserved behind glass. A well-worn paperback with a coffee ring on the cover has always looked more loved to me than a pristine one that's clearly never been opened.

I started this blog because the books I loved kept slipping out of memory between busier months, and writing a proper review was the only reliable way to hold on to what a book actually did to me. Reviews go up only after the last page, spoilers stay fenced off, and there are no star ratings — a paragraph is more honest than a number could ever be.

You'll find as much backlist and small-press fiction here as buzzy new releases, plus the occasional post about the reading life itself: taming a TBR pile, the ethics of lending a favourite, rereading a book you loved at twenty.
